Survey elevation comparison
Level Difference Calculator
Compare two elevations to find the vertical difference, identify which point is higher and preserve the sign of the result.
Survey point elevations
Enter elevations for two points.
Level difference method
The signed difference is obtained by subtracting Point A from Point B. Keeping the sign makes the result useful for grading, drainage and survey comparisons because it preserves direction.
Level difference = elevation B − elevation A
Example
If A is 102.350 m and B is 101.875 m, B − A = −0.475 m. Point B is therefore 0.475 m lower.
Datum discipline
The calculation is meaningful only when both elevations refer to the same vertical datum or benchmark system.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a level difference?
It is the vertical elevation change between two points.
Why keep the sign?
The sign identifies whether Point B is above or below Point A.
Can millimetres be used?
Yes, provided both elevations are entered consistently.
