Survey reference arithmetic

Survey Benchmark Conversion Calculator

Apply an explicit elevation offset to a known benchmark and see the converted value, direction and optional observation difference. This is arithmetic, not a datum transformation.

Benchmark conversion

Only use an offset whose meaning and direction are already defined by the project or survey information.
Enter the known benchmark and offset.

Benchmark conversion methodology

This calculator assumes the project already provides a simple elevation offset between two references. The selected operation then adds or subtracts that value from the known benchmark.

Converted elevation = known elevation ± reference offset

Observation comparison

An optional observed value is compared against the converted result. It does not alter the conversion itself.

Do not confuse arithmetic with survey transformation

Datum transformations can involve coordinate reference systems, geoid models and adjustment procedures. This page intentionally performs none of those operations.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a benchmark conversion offset?

It is a supplied elevation difference between a known reference and the target reference.

Can the offset be negative?

Yes.

Does this perform a datum transformation?

No. It performs arithmetic only.
