Tack Coat Coverage Calculator — Estimate Litres and Containers

Turn a roadway treatment area and your actual tack-coat application rate into net material, planning quantity and full-container demand.

Enter the application rate used by your project or product documentation. The calculator deliberately does not invent a universal tack-coat rate.
Enter the area and rate, then calculate.

The quantity formula

Net litres = area × rate × applications
Planning litres = net litres × (1 + loss ÷ 100)

This keeps the specified application rate separate from a practical purchasing allowance.

Why the rate must remain project-specific

Tack-coat demand can vary with surface condition, materials being bonded and application equipment. A calculator should not turn a generic assumption into a specification.

When supplier documentation uses a different unit, convert it carefully and keep the original documented basis available for checking.

Worked example

For 1,000 m² at 0.30 L/m² and one application, net demand is 300 L. With 7% allowance, planning demand is 321 L. At 200 L per container, 2 whole containers would be required.

Procurement and reconciliation

After application, compare delivered quantity, unused material and treated area. That makes it easier to identify whether a difference came from the application process, measurement or handling rather than from the original takeoff.
