Seal Coat Material Calculator — Estimate Mass, Litres and Drums
Translate a seal-coat application requirement into net mass, equivalent liquid volume and practical container demand without hiding the product density assumption.
Seal-coat quantity inputs
How the calculator works
Net litres = net mass ÷ density
Planning litres = net litres × (1 + allowance ÷ 100)
This sequence keeps the mass-based application rate and the liquid-volume purchasing quantity logically connected.
Why density matters for coating material
A mass-based rate and a volume-based container quantity are different measurements. Converting between them requires the product density. Using an unrelated density can produce a material quantity that looks precise but is not representative of the product being used.
Worked example
At 1,500 m², 1.2 kg/m² and two coats, net material is 3,600 kg. At 1.05 kg/L, that is approximately 3,428.6 L. A 5% planning allowance raises the quantity to about 3,600 L, equivalent to 18 full 200-L containers.
Where estimates commonly go wrong
Typical problems include mixing a rate from one product with density from another, using incompatible area measurements, or hiding losses inside the application rate. Keeping each assumption explicit makes later reconciliation easier.
