Fitting stock control

Plumbing Fitting Inventory Planner for Project Connections

Build a procurement quantity from planned connections for three fitting categories, with category-specific spare stock. This separates the engineering quantity from the purchasing buffer.

Fitting inventory inputs

Use units per connection above 1 when the connection consumes multiple identical fittings. This tool assumes the categories are already defined by fitting type and size.
Enter planned connection counts.

Inventory planning formula

Net quantity = connection count × units per connection
Planned stock = ceiling(net quantity × (1 + spare ÷ 100))

Separate project quantity from spare stock

A procurement buffer is not the same as design quantity. Showing them separately makes it easier to reduce unnecessary stock while retaining an explicit installation or replacement allowance.

What the planner does not decide

It does not identify compatible fittings, sizes, pressure ratings, materials, joining systems or code requirements. Those come from the piping design and specified product system.

Worked example

35, 20 and 12 connection counts with one fitting per connection:

Net = 35 + 20 + 12 = 67 fittings
With 7% spare = ceiling(67 × 1.07) = 72 fittings

Frequently Asked Questions

Can each category represent a different fitting?

Yes.

Can different spare percentages be used?

This simplified version uses one overall spare percentage. For very different risk profiles, calculate categories separately.

Does it create an itemized purchase order?

No. It creates planning quantities.
