Pipe fabrication

Pipe Cut Length Calculator with Fitting Takeoffs

Estimate straight pipe cut length from connection-to-connection dimensions after subtracting explicit fitting takeoffs. Enter your actual fitting dimensions rather than relying on hidden assumptions.

Pipe cut inputs

This tool uses the fitting takeoffs you enter. Do not assume a generic takeoff is valid for every fitting family, manufacturer or measurement convention.
Enter connection dimension and fitting takeoffs.

Pipe cut-length formula

Net cut = connection length − left takeoff − right takeoff
Final cut = net cut − joint/fabrication allowance
Total material cut = final cut × piece count

Why takeoffs must be measured consistently

A fabrication drawing may define a dimension from face-to-face, centerline-to-face, centerline-to-centerline or another reference point. The takeoff method must match the dimension convention.

When this tool is useful

It is useful for repetitive fabrication where connection dimensions and fitting takeoffs are known. It is not a substitute for a project piping drawing or dimensional inspection.

Worked example

A 2.4 m connection dimension uses 80 mm takeoffs at both ends and a 10 mm fabrication deduction:

2.4 − 0.08 − 0.08 − 0.01 = 2.23 m cut length

For twelve identical pieces, total cut length is 12 × 2.23 = 26.76 m.

Common errors

Do not subtract fitting dimensions twice. Do not mix nominal fitting dimensions with measured takeoffs without checking the reference points. Do not assume a pipe cut length is interchangeable with a centerline-developed length.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I enter actual fitting takeoffs?

Yes.

Does this calculate bend developed length?

No. Use a dedicated developed-length method for bend geometry.

Can negative cut lengths occur?

The calculator rejects a case where entered deductions consume the full connection length.

Does this size pipe or fittings?

No.
