Pipe support layout

Pipe Support Spacing Planner with Location Schedule

Generate an approximate support schedule from pipe run length, a maximum target spacing and end offsets. The tool distributes intermediate supports so the calculated intervals do not exceed the selected spacing.

Support layout inputs

This is a geometric planning schedule. Actual support spacing depends on pipe material, diameter, temperature, contents, insulation, loads, fittings, support type and applicable engineering requirements.

How support positions are distributed

Available span = run length − start offset − end offset
Intervals = ceiling(available span ÷ maximum spacing)
Actual interval = available span ÷ intervals

Why actual interval can be smaller

If the available run cannot be divided into equal intervals at the exact target spacing, the planner adds an interval and distributes the remaining length evenly. The result therefore stays at or below the selected spacing within the simplified geometry.

Why this is not a support-design calculator

A maximum spacing value is not universal. It must come from the applicable piping design basis, support standard or qualified engineering decision.

Worked example

For an 18 m run, 3 m maximum spacing and 300 mm end offsets:

Available span = 18 − 0.3 − 0.3 = 17.4 m
Intervals = ceiling(17.4 ÷ 3) = 6
Actual interval = 17.4 ÷ 6 = 2.9 m

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this determine safe support spacing?

No.

Can I change the maximum spacing?

Yes.

Are end supports included?

The generated positions include the selected start and end offsets.

Does it consider fittings and valves?

No. Those may require additional support coordination.
