Penetration schedule

Pipe Sleeve Count Calculator for Wall and Floor Penetrations

Turn a penetration schedule into a practical sleeve count by separating three sleeve groups and adding a visible spare allowance for procurement planning.

Penetration quantities

Groups can represent different penetration schedules or sleeve types. The calculator rounds each group's planning quantity up to a whole sleeve.
Enter penetration counts and spare allowances.

How sleeve quantity is determined

The starting quantity is the number of planned penetrations. Each group can then receive its own spare allowance, because sleeve types and installation uncertainty may differ by penetration category.

Planning sleeves = ceiling(penetrations × (1 + spare ÷ 100))

Why separate groups?

A project can have different sleeve diameters, wall thicknesses, fire-rated details or floor and wall penetration arrangements. Combining them into one number can hide procurement differences.

What this calculator does not size

It does not determine sleeve diameter, annular space, firestopping, waterproofing, movement allowance or code compliance. Those depend on the actual penetration assembly and project specification.

Worked example

For 20, 12 and 8 penetrations with 5%, 5% and 10% spare allowances:

Group 1 = ceiling(20 × 1.05) = 21
Group 2 = ceiling(12 × 1.05) = 13
Group 3 = ceiling(8 × 1.10) = 9
Total = 43 sleeves

Frequently Asked Questions

Does every penetration need a sleeve?

Not necessarily. Follow the project's penetration detail.

Why round up?

Sleeves are discrete items, so procurement requires whole pieces.

Can spare percentages differ?

Yes, and that is useful when different sleeve categories have different uncertainty.

Does this order firestop material?

No. Firestopping is a separate material takeoff.
