Window Screen Mesh Calculator | Mesh Area & Spline
Estimate mesh material and spline length for rectangular window screens. See the finished mesh area, frame perimeter, cutting allowance and practical roll requirement separately.
Screen dimensions
Screen mesh and spline requirement
Screen mesh calculation method
Total net mesh = area / screen × screen count
Planning mesh = net area × (1 + mesh allowance ÷ 100)
Spline / screen = 2 × (width + height)
Total spline = spline / screen × screen count × (1 + spline allowance ÷ 100)
Why mesh area and roll length are different
A mesh roll is a rectangular sheet, while screens are individual cut rectangles. A simple area calculation gives the theoretical material, but the actual roll requirement is influenced by nesting and offcuts.
What the roll result means
The displayed roll count is an area-based planning result. It does not perform a full cutting-stock optimization, so a real fabrication shop may need more or less material depending on orientation and reusable offcuts.
Spline is a separate material
Spline follows the screen-frame perimeter rather than the mesh area. Keeping it separate prevents a common procurement mistake in which mesh quantity is calculated correctly but the retaining spline is forgotten.
Worked example
For six screens measuring 750 mm × 1,200 mm:
Net mesh = 6 × 0.90 = 5.40 m²
Perimeter = 2 × (0.75 + 1.20) = 3.90 m
Net spline = 6 × 3.90 = 23.40 m
Cutting allowances can then be applied independently to mesh and spline.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the calculator include spline?
Yes, separately from mesh.
Can I use a different mesh roll width?
Yes.
Does it optimize the roll cutting pattern?
No. The roll result is an area-based planning estimate.
Can different screen sizes be combined?
This page models identical screens. Different sizes require separate scenarios.
