Window Trim Length Calculator | Perimeter & Stock Pieces

Convert window opening dimensions into a practical trim quantity. Model three-sided or four-sided trim, include multiple windows and keep the cut allowance separate from the theoretical perimeter.

Window trim formula

Four-sided trim = 2 × (width + height)
Three-sided trim = 2 × height + width
Planning length = net length × (1 + allowance ÷ 100)
Stock pieces = ceiling(planning length ÷ stock length)

Why three-sided and four-sided layouts differ

Trim details vary around sills, stools, aprons and other window finishes. The calculator treats the field trim as a defined perimeter so the chosen layout stays visible.

Linear length is not a full cutting plan

Two projects with identical perimeter length can require different stock quantities because the individual piece lengths and mitre arrangement differ. Use the stock-piece result as a procurement screen rather than a nesting optimizer.

Worked example

For eight windows measuring 1.2 m × 1.5 m with four-sided trim:

Per window = 2 × (1.2 + 1.5) = 5.4 m
Net trim = 8 × 5.4 = 43.2 m

An allowance can then be added for mitres, end cuts and handling.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this include four sides?

Yes, by default, with a three-sided option.

Can I include several windows?

Yes.

Does it optimize exact cuts?

No. It estimates length and standard-piece quantity.

Can I change the stock length?

Yes. Enter the actual trim length supplied by your vendor.
