Wall geometry

Wall Centerline Calculator

Find the centerline of a straight wall from one face and wall thickness, or verify it from both face coordinates. Useful for setting out partitions, masonry and structural reference lines.

Wall references

Enter a face coordinate and wall thickness.

Centerline method

For a wall of uniform thickness, its centerline is halfway through the thickness. If both face coordinates are supplied, the independent midpoint provides a useful verification.

Center = reference face + thickness ÷ 2
Independent center = (face 1 + face 2) ÷ 2

Example

A wall face at 4.20 m with 200 mm thickness has a centerline at 4.30 m. The opposite face is expected at 4.40 m.

Why check both faces?

If drawings provide both wall-face references, comparing the midpoint calculation with the thickness-derived center can expose an input or dimension mismatch before setting out.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can wall thickness be very small?

Yes, provided it remains greater than zero.

Can the opposite face be omitted?

Yes.

Does it handle a wall that is not aligned with X/Y?

No. This is a one-dimensional centerline calculation.
