How Much of Your Backup Load Can the Battery Cover?
Measure battery coverage against a defined load and outage duration while protecting reserve energy and accounting for conversion losses.
What backup coverage percentage means
Coverage percentage compares available delivered battery energy against the energy required by a defined outage scenario. It is more useful for planning when the load represents actual critical circuits rather than the entire property.
Why reserve matters
Reserve energy is intentionally excluded from the current backup calculation. If you plan to hold energy for a later outage or emergency condition, that reserve should not be counted as available now.
Why load selection matters
HVAC, pumps, water heating and other high-demand equipment can quickly reduce coverage. A critical-load configuration may produce a very different result from total site demand.
Limitations
This tool does not test inverter surge capability, battery power limits, thermal restrictions, generator coordination or changing load profiles.
FAQs
Does 100% coverage guarantee uninterrupted backup?
No. It only means the modeled delivered energy meets the stated energy requirement.
Why is efficiency included?
Not all stored battery energy reaches the load because of conversion losses.
Can I use this for commercial facilities?
Yes, when the load represents the actual backed-up circuits.
Can load change during an outage?
Yes. For detailed planning, use interval load data.
