Backup Power Outage Coverage Planner — See Which Loads Stay Online
Plan outage coverage by ranking loads and comparing the total required power and energy against your available backup source.
Backup source
Loads by priority
Power capacity and energy capacity are different constraints
A backup source can have enough stored energy for an outage but still be unable to supply the instantaneous power demand. Conversely, it may have enough power capacity but not enough energy for a long interruption.
Priority-first allocation
This tool accepts loads in priority order until either the effective power budget or required energy budget is reached.
Required energy
For constant loads, outage energy equals kW multiplied by outage duration. This provides a transparent first-pass coverage check.
Reserve margin
A portion of the stated backup power can be held back so the planner does not treat nominal capacity as fully available.
Limitations
Generator fuel, UPS battery discharge behavior, starting current, transient loads and automatic-transfer behavior require separate analysis.
Frequently asked questions
Can Priority 3 be excluded completely?
Yes. The algorithm only adds loads while the power and energy budgets permit.
Does the result guarantee outage operation?
No. It is a planning model and must be checked against the actual backup equipment and installation.
Can available energy be zero?
Yes, which means no load requiring positive outage duration can be covered in the energy model.
