Electrical point-schedule conversion

Socket & Outlet Plate Quantity Calculator

Translate socket, outlet and switch schedules into cover-plate quantities while keeping shared assemblies and spare stock explicit.

Point schedule inputs

Use the actual approved plate arrangement. Some installations combine multiple devices under one common plate, so device count and plate count are not universally identical.
Enter point counts and plate-per-point assumptions.

Plate-count method

Each schedule line is multiplied by its stated plate-per-point factor. Blank plates are then added as their own requirement. The spare allowance is applied to the combined base quantity.

Socket plates = socket points × plates/point
Switch plates = switch points × plates/point
Base plates = socket plates + switch plates + blank plates
Planning plates = ceiling(base × (1 + spare ÷ 100))

Example

48 socket points at one plate each require 48 plates. Twenty-two switch points add 22, and five blank plates bring the base to 75. With 8% spare, the planning quantity is 81 plates.

Procurement tip

Keep different finishes, materials, colors and specialist plate types as separate schedule lines. A mathematically correct total can still be operationally wrong when interchangeable-looking products are not actually interchangeable.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can the plate-per-point factor be zero?

Yes when that schedule line is already covered by a shared assembly and needs no separate plate.

Can spare allowance be zero?

Yes.

Does this choose a plate style?

No. It is a quantity-planning tool, not a product-selection system.
