Paving perimeter planning

Paving Edge Restraint Length Calculator

Calculate the total length of edge restraint required around a paved area and convert that installed length into practical stock sections. Use additional boundary length for non-rectangular areas rather than forcing the project into a simple rectangle.

Boundary inputs

Use for steps, curves or irregular perimeter segments.
The rectangle contributes 2 × (length + width). Add any other boundary segments that need restraint.
Enter paving boundary dimensions.

Calculation method

Rectangle perimeter = 2 × (length + width)
Total restraint = rectangle perimeter + additional boundary
Stock sections = ceiling(total restraint × (1 + allowance) ÷ section length)

Why additional boundary is useful

Real paving layouts can include driveways with returns, steps, radiused edges and openings. Adding those segments keeps the quantity calculation transparent.

What this does not select

The calculator does not determine restraint type, anchoring detail, embedment or structural suitability. Those depend on the paving system and project conditions.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much edge restraint do I need?

Calculate the actual boundary length that requires restraint.

How many sections should I buy?

Divide adjusted installed length by the usable length of one section and round up.

Does it design the restraint?

No. It is a quantity and geometry tool.
