Mechanical Room Equipment Clearance Planner

Check each equipment side independently so a room can be evaluated for footprint fit and usable access margins.

Room and equipment inputs

Clearance requirements are user inputs. Verify equipment-specific service access, electrical safety, fire requirements and applicable codes before construction.

How clearance is checked

The required room width is equipment width plus left and right clearances. Required room depth is equipment depth plus front and rear clearances. Each available dimension is compared independently.

Required width = equipment width + left + right
Required depth = equipment depth + front + rear
Margin = available dimension − required dimension

Why individual margins matter

A room may have adequate overall area but still fail because one direction cannot accommodate the equipment and its service zones. Reporting both margins identifies the limiting direction immediately.

Worked example

A 2.5 × 1.5 m equipment footprint with 1.0 m left/right and 1.2/0.8 m front/rear clearances requires 4.5 m width and 3.5 m depth. In an 8 × 6 m room, both dimensions have positive spare margin.

Limitations

This is a planning check, not a certification of minimum working space or equipment installation compliance.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can a clearance be zero?

Yes mathematically, but only use zero when the project requirement actually permits it.

Can the equipment be rotated?

Re-enter the footprint dimensions swapped to test the alternate orientation.
