How Repair Metal Requirement Is Calculated

The repair addition is first multiplied by the number of jobs. The model then adjusts the required starting metal for the specified process loss.

Total Repair Addition = Requirement per Repair × Quantity

Starting Metal = Total Repair Addition ÷ (1 − Loss %)

Fine Gold = Total Repair Addition × Purity ÷ 100

Why Repair Estimates Need an Allowance

Actual repair work can involve trimming, filing, soldering, polishing and other operations. A small material allowance can therefore be useful when planning stock.

Repair Requirement Versus Customer Billing

The quantity of metal needed for a repair is not the same thing as the customer's charge. Labour, skill, design complexity and commercial policies are separate considerations.

Use your historical repair data to set realistic process-loss assumptions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I calculate many repairs at once?

Yes. Enter the number of comparable repairs.

Does the purity field determine alloy composition?

No. It only determines the fine-gold amount represented by the entered repair metal.

Can loss be zero?

Yes, if you want a theoretical no-loss material requirement.
