Cap quantity formula
A cap layout is not simply wall length divided by cap length because joints occupy part of the run. A simplified effective coverage per unit is:
The theoretical unit count is then based on the wall length divided by that pitch. A separate cutting allowance is applied afterwards.
Why corners deserve separate attention
At external corners, the finished visual joint may depend on whether caps are square-cut, mitred, returned or replaced with dedicated corner units. Those details can materially change the cutting plan without changing the total wall length.
For that reason, this calculator exposes the number of corners as a planning flag. It does not pretend every cap system uses the same corner geometry.
Worked example
For a 12 m wall using 600 mm caps and 5 mm joints, the effective pitch is 605 mm. The theoretical requirement is just under 20 pieces, so a whole-piece purchase starts at 20 before any cutting allowance. A 5% allowance then increases the procurement quantity to 21 pieces.
