Floor Level Transition Calculator
Compare finished floor elevations between rooms, corridors, slabs or other building zones. The tool reports the signed level difference and can translate that difference into a transition grade when a horizontal run is known.
Enter the two floor levels
How floor level transitions are calculated
The basic quantity is the difference between the two elevations. The absolute difference tells you how much the floor levels differ, while the signed difference preserves direction.
When a transition run is supplied, the corresponding grade can be expressed as:
Example
If Zone A is 100.000 m and Zone B is 99.850 m, the signed difference is −0.150 m, so Zone B is 150 mm lower. Across a 3.0 m horizontal transition, the geometric grade is 5.0%.
What the calculator does not decide
It does not select a ramp system, flooring detail, doorway threshold, drainage detail or accessibility limit. Those are project-specific design decisions.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I calculate a floor level difference?
Subtract one elevation from the other and use the absolute value for the size of the difference.
Can the calculator estimate a transition slope?
Yes, when a horizontal run is provided.
Does this determine whether a ramp is compliant?
No. Compliance requires the applicable project and regulatory requirements.
