Drum inventory control
Cable Drum Length Calculator
Estimate the cable remaining on a partially used drum by separating original drum content from cable already withdrawn.
Drum inputs
This method assumes the original drum content is known and the withdrawn cable is accurately recorded or measured.
Enter original and withdrawn cable lengths.

Remaining-length formula
This is a direct inventory calculation rather than a physical drum-geometry model.
Remaining length = original cable length − withdrawn cable length
Remaining % = remaining ÷ original × 100
Remaining % = remaining ÷ original × 100
Worked example
A 500 m drum with 327 m already withdrawn has 173 m remaining. That is 34.6% of the original drum content.
Why a negative result is rejected
A negative remainder would indicate that the entered withdrawal exceeds the known original cable quantity, which is an inventory inconsistency rather than a meaningful physical result.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use this for a drum with unknown original length?
Only when you first establish the original quantity from a reliable drum record or manufacturer information.
Can partial cable already installed elsewhere be counted?
Only cable actually withdrawn from the drum should be entered as used.
