Cable route takeoff

Cable Pull Length Calculator

Build a traceable cable length from route segments, equipment slack and explicit procurement allowance rather than using one unexplained percentage.

Route and slack inputs

This tool assumes the route is represented by entered linear components. Complex routing, bend-radius loops and engineered service loops should be measured separately.
Enter the physical route and slack requirements.

Pull-length methodology

The route is separated from the allowances so the takeoff remains easy to audit. Procurement allowance is added after the physical route and explicit slack have been included.

Physical route = horizontal + vertical
Base cable length = physical route + source slack + destination slack + extra allowance
Planning cable = base × (1 + procurement allowance ÷ 100)

Worked example

A 42 m horizontal route plus 8 m vertical route equals 50 m. Adding 1.5 m source slack, 2 m destination slack and 1 m extra gives 54.5 m. With a 5% procurement allowance, one cable plans to approximately 57.23 m.

What the result means

The final value is a takeoff quantity, not a statement of the cable manufacturer's minimum installation length or allowable pulling tension.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I set both slack values to zero?

Yes, when the actual installation requirement provides no additional slack.

Why separate equipment allowance from slack?

It makes the reason for the extra cable visible and easier to revise during procurement.
