Battery Throughput Calculator — Measure Energy Delivered Over Battery Life
Estimate how much energy passes through a battery during one cycle, a chosen cycle count and the complete modeled operating life.
Throughput inputs
What battery throughput means
Battery throughput describes the amount of energy processed by the battery over time. It is useful when comparing usage intensity, lifecycle assumptions and energy delivered during repeated cycling.
One-cycle throughput
For a simple model, one cycle's energy throughput is nominal battery capacity multiplied by the selected depth of discharge.
Lifetime throughput
Multiplying one-cycle throughput by the number of cycles produces the cumulative modeled energy throughput.
Why efficiency changes delivered energy
Battery-side throughput and energy delivered to an AC load are not necessarily identical. Round-trip efficiency provides a transparent conversion between those two bases.
Limitations
Real cycle throughput depends on partial cycling, charging and discharging profiles, temperature, degradation and the exact accounting convention used.
Frequently asked questions
Does a partial cycle count as throughput?
Yes. Cumulative energy throughput can be tracked independently of whether every cycle reaches the same depth.
Is throughput the same as battery capacity?
No. Capacity describes stored energy at a particular condition; throughput describes energy processed over repeated operation.
Can throughput be zero?
Yes, when the entered cycle count or discharge depth is zero.
