Estimate Jewellery Value
Calculate metal value first, then add jewellery-specific costs.
Use your local currency consistently for the price and charge inputs.
How Gold Jewellery Value Is Calculated
The gold component is calculated from the gross gold-alloy weight, the karat purity and the entered 24K gold price per gram.
Gold Metal Value = Fine Gold × 24K Price per Gram
The calculator then adds making charges, gemstone or non-gold value and other charges supplied by the user.
Jewellery Value Is More Than Gold Melt Value
A retail jewellery price can include workmanship and design value that is not present in the underlying metal. A ring, necklace or bracelet may also contain stones or other components.
Example
Suppose a piece contains 20 grams of 18K gold alloy and the 24K gold price is 100 per gram. The fine-gold content is:
15 × 100 = 1,500 metal value
If making charges are 200 and gemstone value is 300, the estimated total before any other charges is 2,000.
Retail Value vs Melt Value
| Calculation | Includes | Best Used For |
|---|---|---|
| Jewellery Value | Gold + making + optional stones/charges | Retail-style estimate |
| Melt Value | Gold metal only | Intrinsic metal comparison |
| Scrap Value | Gold content adjusted for recovery/discount | Scrap resale estimate |
| Buyback Value | Dealer buyback rate and deductions | Expected dealer payout |
Important Limitations
This is an estimate based entirely on user-entered inputs. It does not provide a live market price, appraisal, authentication result or guaranteed selling price.
Taxes, premiums, retailer margins and local pricing practices can materially change an actual jewellery price.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does this calculator calculate?
It estimates jewellery value from gold weight, purity, gold price, making charges and optional additional values.
Does jewellery value equal gold value?
No. Jewellery can include workmanship, design, gemstones, taxes and other components.
Does karat affect jewellery value?
Yes. Karat changes the fine-gold content and therefore the calculated metal value for the same weight.
Can this calculator determine an exact selling price?
No. Actual prices depend on the buyer, seller and item-specific factors.
Does this calculator use a live gold price?
No. You enter the price used for the calculation.
