Gold Soldering Quality Checklist: Inspect Joints Before the Piece Moves On

Create a repeatable soldering inspection point for gold jewellery before polishing or final release, covering fit-up, solder flow, excess material, heat effects and function.

Solder checks

What good solder inspection should look for

A solder joint should be assessed in context: component fit-up, clean surfaces, controlled solder flow, alignment and the absence of unacceptable excess material. Moving parts should be checked for function after soldering.

Inspect surrounding areas for heat-related distortion or damage, especially where stones, finished surfaces or sensitive components are nearby.

Safety note: torches, fluxes, hot metal and pickling chemicals require appropriate ventilation, PPE, fire controls and trained procedures. This page is a quality checklist, not a safety manual.

Rework discipline

When a joint fails inspection, record the problem and route it back to the proper stage. Repeated solder defects can indicate issues with preparation, fit-up, fixture design or process consistency.

Methodology

The percentage measures completion of the listed inspection checks. It does not prove metallurgical strength, fatigue life or universal technical compliance.
