Gold Casting Inspection Checklist: Stop Defects Before They Become Expensive Rework

Use a casting-stage inspection gate to catch incomplete areas, obvious surface problems, distortion, poor fit and sprue-related issues before more labour is added.

What to inspect at the casting stage

Casting inspection exists to stop defects before additional finishing, setting and assembly work increase the cost of correction. Compare the physical cast component with the intended model or job specification and look for obvious issues that affect later operations.

  • Missing or incomplete sections.
  • Obvious surface defects requiring rework.
  • Distortion that affects fit or geometry.
  • Critical mating areas and stone-setting regions.
  • Sprue or gate areas that need proper preparation.

A visual inspection cannot reveal every internal casting defect. Where a product or process requires specialist testing, use the appropriate technical method.

Methodology

Completion is based on the listed inspection checks. The disposition remains a human decision and should follow the workshop's technical process.
