Repeated joint location planning

Expansion Joint Position Planner

Generate a transparent joint-position schedule along a long construction surface. Enter the project’s assumed interval and end offsets to see every planned location and the resulting final panel length.

Joint layout inputs

The interval is an assumption supplied by you. This planner does not determine the required joint spacing for a particular material or code.
Enter surface length and interval.

How the joint positions are generated

The usable length is the surface length after deducting the specified start and end offsets. Joints are then placed at the requested interval from the usable start.

Usable length = total length − start offset − end offset

Why show the final panel span?

The requested interval may not divide the usable surface evenly. The final span can therefore differ from the nominal interval, especially when a final joint is forced at the usable end.

Material-specific caution

Expansion joints, movement joints, control joints and construction joints are not interchangeable terms in every construction system. The required location, spacing and detail depend on the material and design requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the calculator choose the correct joint spacing?

No. It uses the interval you provide.

Can I reserve an offset from both ends?

Yes.

Does every long surface require the same interval?

No. Joint requirements depend on the construction system and project requirements.
