Electrical Material Purchase Quantity Optimizer
Estimate how much electrical material should be purchased after accounting for required usage, current stock, planned waste, a minimum order quantity and the inventory you want left at the end.
Calculate recommended purchase quantity
Recommended order
Methodology
The optimizer first increases the usable requirement by the specified waste allowance. It then subtracts current usable stock and adds the desired closing inventory target. A minimum order quantity and order multiple are applied only after that net requirement is calculated.
Core equation
Purchase need = Required quantity × (1 + waste %) − usable stock + target closing stock
Recommended purchase is never negative. If existing stock already covers the requirement and target, the recommended order is zero unless your purchasing policy intentionally requires a minimum replenishment.
Why order multiples matter
Cable drums, boxes of terminals, packs of glands and similar electrical materials are often purchased in discrete quantities. An order multiple prevents a mathematically precise quantity from becoming an impractical partial package.
Planning cautions
- Waste percentage is an assumption; it is not a universal installation standard.
- Current stock should represent usable, releasable stock rather than all physical stock in the warehouse.
- MOQ can increase the order beyond the immediate project need.
- For expensive or long-lead materials, compare the recommendation with storage constraints and future demand before placing a purchase order.
FAQs
Does the tool optimize price?
No. It optimizes quantity against usage and stock constraints. Price and supplier comparison require separate commercial analysis.
What if the MOQ is larger than the requirement?
The recommendation will move up to at least the MOQ, subject to the order multiple.
Can waste be zero?
Yes. Enter zero when you deliberately want the calculation to exclude an allowance.
What does target closing inventory mean?
It is the quantity you intentionally want to remain after planned consumption. It can represent a project contingency, future demand or an internal stock target.
