Metal-stud track quantity

Drywall Stud Track Calculator | Top & Bottom Track Length

Calculate the straight-run top and bottom metal track needed for a drywall partition. Account for an opening deduction scenario and add a separate ordering allowance.

Track inputs

Opening deduction is a quantity scenario only. Door and other openings often require additional framing pieces, so a deducted track run should not be interpreted as complete opening material.

Track length formula

Base run = wall run × number of continuous runs
Opening deduction = opening width × number of affected continuous runs
Net track = base run − opening deduction + returns
Planning quantity = net track × (1 + allowance ÷ 100)

Why returns are separate

Short returns, ends and framing details can consume track even when the main wall run is unchanged. Keeping them separate makes the takeoff easier to audit.
