How downspout material is estimated
Each downspout consists of its vertical drop plus any horizontal or angled offsets required to reach the discharge point. Accessories are counted independently.
Total run = run per drop × number of drops
Planning length = total run × (1 + waste)
Sections = ceiling(planning length ÷ section length)
Worked example
Four downspouts at 6 m vertical height plus 0.7 m average offset create a base material run of 26.8 m before the cutting allowance and section rounding.
Why fittings are separate
Elbows, outlets and straps are discrete components. Separating them from straight downspout length makes the material list easier to verify against a supplier catalogue.
Drainage capacity is a different calculation
A material quantity estimate should not be confused with hydraulic sizing. The number, diameter and arrangement of downspouts should be checked against the roof catchment and drainage design.
