Window treatment planning

Curtain Track Length Calculator | Window & Wall Coverage

Calculate the curtain track length needed to cover a window or opening, including side extensions and optional center overlap. Keep opening width, installation allowance and total track length separate.

Track length inputs

Track extension is a layout choice. Consider curtain stack-back, wall clearance, hardware stops and the actual track system before purchasing.

Curtain track formula

Track per opening = opening width + left extension + right extension + center overlap
Total track = track per opening × track count

Why extension is not a fixed number

Some installations prioritize compact wall coverage, while others need enough stack-back space to expose more of the window. The calculator therefore asks for the desired extension instead of assuming every opening needs the same projection.

Center overlap

A center overlap can matter for split-draw curtains where the two curtains meet in the middle. Single-panel installations may use zero instead.

Worked example

For a 2.0 m opening with 200 mm extensions on each side and 100 mm center overlap:

Track = 2.0 + 0.2 + 0.2 + 0.1 = 2.5 m

For six identical windows, total track is 6 × 2.5 = 15 m.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I add side extension?

Add it when the curtain design requires track beyond the opening.

Does center overlap apply to every curtain?

No. It is mainly relevant to split-draw arrangements.

Does this choose the correct track profile?

No.

Can I calculate multiple windows?

Yes, for identical openings.
