Crack-Sealing Material Calculator — Estimate Sealant Volume
Estimate sealant volume from the total crack length and representative crack dimensions, with the uncertainty of irregular cracks kept visible.
Crack geometry inputs
How the estimate works
For a simple rectangular crack model:
Because the dimensions are entered in metres and millimetres, the calculator converts the widths and depths into metres before multiplying. It then applies the fill factor and handling allowance.
Why the fill factor is useful
A perfectly rectangular crack is an idealisation. The fill factor lets you state how much of the nominal geometric volume you are actually planning to fill instead of hiding that assumption.
Width and depth have a direct effect
If crack width doubles while every other input remains the same, geometric sealant volume doubles. The same is true for depth. This makes careful representative measurement important for larger repair programs.
Worked example
For 500 m of crack at 8 mm average width and 10 mm depth, geometric volume is 40 L. At 85% effective fill, the estimate is 34 L. With 8% allowance, planning quantity is 36.72 L, requiring 62 cartridges of 600 mL.
Limitations
This tool does not determine routing, crack reservoir dimensions, backer requirements, compatibility, installation temperature or product selection. It is a quantity estimate, not a repair specification.
