Concrete Accelerator Dosage Calculator

Convert the approved accelerator dosage for a concrete mixture into the required batch quantity and optional liquid dispensing volume, then compare another dosage scenario without assuming a universal product rate.

Enter the accelerator data

kg/L for volume calculation.
Accelerator response is product- and mixture-specific. Use the actual approved dosage and do not treat the calculator as a cold-weather or strength prescription.
Enter binder mass and accelerator dosage.

The accelerator dosage formula

For a percentage dosage, the required product mass is proportional to the cementitious material mass.

Accelerator mass = cementitious mass × dosage ÷ 100

If product density is known, liquid dispensing volume is:

Volume = accelerator mass ÷ product density

Worked example

For 380 kg cementitious material and 1.2% accelerator dosage:

380 × 0.012 = 4.56 kg

At 1.25 kg/L density, this is about 3.65 L.

Accelerator type and chemistry matter

ASTM C494 includes Type C accelerating admixtures and Type E water-reducing and accelerating admixtures. The performance requirements are evaluated using concrete materials and testing conditions rather than a single universal dosage value.

Reference: ASTM C494/C494M-24.

Cold-weather use requires more than dosage arithmetic

Accelerating admixtures can be part of a cold-weather concreting strategy, but temperature, curing, protection, mixture composition and project requirements all remain important. The calculator only converts dosage into quantity.

Why a higher dosage is not automatically better

A dosage change can affect setting, workability, early strength and other properties. Excessive or inappropriate dosage can create unintended behavior. Follow the product technical data and approved mixture procedure.

Common mistakes

Using a dosage from another product: products are not interchangeable.

Ignoring density: mass and liquid volume are different quantities.

Assuming the percentage includes only Portland cement: check the actual dosage basis.

Treating the calculator as a performance model: actual field response must be verified.

Limitations

This calculator converts dosage to batch quantity. It does not predict setting time, strength gain, temperature effects or compatibility with other admixtures.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much accelerator is 1.2% of 380 kg?

4.56 kg.

Can I convert it to litres?

Yes, using the product density.

Does accelerator dosage depend on temperature?

Actual response can change with temperature and mixture conditions.

Can this choose the right cold-weather dosage?

No. Use the approved cold-weather procedure and product documentation.

Can the same percentage be used for every accelerator?

No. Dosage ranges are product-specific.
