Cable Tray Elbow Layout Planner

Document cable-tray direction changes as horizontal or vertical elbows. Each turn is tied to a route position so the resulting fitting schedule is easier to review.

What this elbow planner solves

The tool focuses on route-direction transitions. It distinguishes horizontal direction changes from vertical elevation changes rather than reducing every turn to a single elbow count.

How the layout is organized

Each turn has a position along the route, an elbow type and a direction or angle description. The position provides a linear reference for drawings or takeoff discussions, while the type preserves whether the route changes direction in plan or elevation.

Why type matters

A horizontal turn and a vertical transition can require different tray fittings and installation arrangements. Treating both as the same generic elbow can lose important procurement information.

Worked example

A route can contain a horizontal right turn at 18 units, a horizontal left turn at 42 units and a vertical up transition at 61 units. The planner retains all three as separate fitting events.

Angle entry

The angle is a project input rather than a hard-coded assumption. This allows the schedule to represent 45°, 90° or other geometry without claiming that a particular angle is universally available in every tray system.

Limitations and safety

The tool does not calculate bend radius, fitting dimensions, tray developed length, support requirements or structural loading. Verify the actual fitting series and route dimensions before installation.

Frequently asked questions

Can horizontal and vertical elbows be mixed?

Yes. Each route event can have its own fitting type.

Does the planner select a fitting part number?

No. It generates a route-oriented fitting schedule only.

Can I use non-90-degree turns?

Yes. Enter the intended angle as a project-specific value.
