Cable Tray Tee Junction Planner

Document the locations where a main cable-tray route branches into another route. The planner keeps branch position, branch direction and fitting quantity together.

What a tee junction planner does

A tee junction is a route-splitting event. This planner focuses on the point where the main tray route and a branch route connect, which is different from a generic elbow because the fitting creates a new route direction rather than merely turning an existing one.

Planning method

Each branch is represented by a position along the main route, a branch direction and a branch length. The result sorts branch points along the main route and reports the resulting tee count and branch routing schedule.

Why branch length is recorded

The length does not determine the tee itself, but it provides useful takeoff context. A branch route also needs tray material, joints, supports and possibly additional fittings beyond the tee.

Worked example

If a 100-unit main route branches at 25, 55 and 82 units, the planner reports three tee junctions and preserves each branch direction and branch length. The locations can then be cross-checked against the building or plant layout.

Common mistakes

Do not confuse a tee with a simple route crossing. A branch fitting represents a physical routing connection. Also check that the branch direction and width are compatible with the selected tray system.

Limitations and safety

The planner does not determine tray widths, fitting part numbers, support design, cable fill or structural capacity. Those values require the actual tray product and engineering design.

Frequently asked questions

Can several tees occur on one route?

Yes. Each branch is entered as a separate route event.

Does branch length affect tee quantity?

No. One entered branch event produces one modeled tee junction.

Can directions be custom?

Yes. The direction field is text so project-specific descriptions can be used.
