Vinyl Flooring Roll Calculator
Estimate vinyl flooring roll length from room size and roll width. Compare both orientation choices and keep seam, trim and waste assumptions visible.

Vinyl roll requirement
How vinyl roll quantity is calculated
Vinyl roll flooring is purchased by linear length at a fixed roll width. That makes orientation especially important: the roll width must cover one room dimension using one or more strips.
Base roll length = strips × other room dimension + seam allowance
Planning length = base length × (1 + waste)
Worked example
A 6 × 4 m room using a 3 m wide roll needs two strips if the roll width is laid across the 4 m dimension. Each strip runs approximately 6 m, before seam and waste allowances, so the base is about 12 m of roll.
Why orientation matters
The same roll can require very different linear lengths depending on which room dimension receives the roll width. The comparison is therefore more useful than simply dividing floor area by roll width.
Pattern matching and seams
Printed or directional vinyl can require additional matching length. Seam requirements also depend on the product system and installation method. Enter a project-specific allowance rather than assuming that every roll behaves identically.
Limitations
This is a rectangular-room planning model. It does not perform a full sheet nesting simulation for corridors, alcoves, multiple rooms or complex patterns.

Should I allow for seams?
Use the selected product's installation method.
Does waste vary by room?
Yes.
