Trailer Hitch Compatibility Finder
Check whether a proposed hitch and trailer combination passes the specific weight, mounting and equipment limits you enter.
Check the towing setup
How hitch compatibility is checked
The calculation compares loaded trailer weight and expected tongue load against the vehicle and hitch limits. The most restrictive applicable limit governs the result.
Allowed trailer weight = lower of vehicle tow rating and hitch tow rating.
Allowed tongue load = lower of vehicle tongue limit and hitch tongue limit.
Why a hitch alone does not create towing capacity
Adding a hitch does not automatically give a vehicle a particular towing capability. The exact vehicle specifications remain necessary.
Use loaded weight
Trailer payload, equipment and cargo can increase the actual operating weight.
Safety equipment is separate
Electrical connections, trailer brakes where applicable, safety chains and other requirements depend on the exact combination and jurisdiction.
