Inventory composition

Formula

Metal inventory value = stock quantity × current user-entered rate/kg Total inventory value = sum of all metal category values Average inventory value/kg = total inventory value ÷ total inventory weight
Use a consistent valuation basis for all rows. For example, use current buyer rates, supplier replacement rates or your own internal inventory valuation rates rather than mixing different pricing methods.

Example

Copper
500 kg × USD 8.50/kg = USD 4,250.
Aluminum
1,000 kg × USD 2.50/kg = USD 2,500.
Steel
2,000 kg × USD 0.35/kg = USD 700.
Total
The inventory value is the sum of all category values: USD 7,450.

Inventory valuation considerations

This tool provides a user-entered-rate valuation estimate. It does not fetch live metal prices and should not be treated as an accounting valuation without applying the appropriate accounting method and adjustments.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is metal inventory value calculated? Each metal's stock quantity is multiplied by its entered rate per kilogram. All metal values are then added together.

Can I calculate several metals together? Yes. Add as many inventory categories as needed, with each category using its own quantity and rate.

Are the metal prices live? No. The calculator intentionally uses rates entered by the user so it can work with current buyer rates, supplier rates or internal valuations.

Can I value scrap inventory? Yes. Enter each scrap category, its stock weight and the rate you currently expect to receive.

Can I use different currencies? Yes. USD is the default and several other currencies are available.

What is average inventory value per kilogram? It is the total estimated inventory value divided by the total stock weight across all entered categories.

Can I update the rates whenever prices change? Yes. Simply replace the user-entered rate for each metal and recalculate.
