How price per kg is calculated

Step 1 — Convert quoted weight to kilograms
For example, 100 lb is converted to approximately 45.3592 kg.
Step 2 — Divide price by kilograms
Price per kg = quoted price ÷ converted weight in kg.
Step 3 — Compare quotations
Once every quotation is expressed in the same currency and price/kg basis, lower and higher material prices can be compared directly.

Example

USD 10 per pound
1 lb = 0.45359237 kg, so USD 10/lb is approximately USD 22.0462/kg.
USD 25 per kilogram
USD 25/kg is higher than USD 10/lb because USD 10/lb is approximately USD 22.05/kg.
USD 25,000 per metric tonne
A metric tonne contains 1,000 kg, so the equivalent is USD 25/kg.

What this calculator does not include

For purchasing decisions, compare the final delivered cost on the same currency, grade, specification, quantity and delivery basis—not only the quoted material price per kg.
