Estimate metal ceiling grid main runners, cross tees, perimeter angle, hangers and accessories from ceiling area and grid spacing.
Ceiling Dimensions
Grid Spacing
For a standard 600 × 600 mm exposed grid, a common preliminary arrangement is approximately 1200 mm main runner spacing with 600 mm cross tees.

Main Runner Calculation
Main runner lines are distributed across the ceiling width according to the entered main runner spacing. Each line runs approximately the full ceiling length.
Main Runner Lines = Ceiling(Width ÷ Main Runner Spacing) + 1
Main Runner Length = Main Runner Lines × Ceiling Length
Cross Tee Calculation
Cross tees are estimated across the main runner grid using the entered cross tee spacing.
Cross Tee Lines = Ceiling(Length ÷ Cross Tee Spacing) + 1
Cross Tee Length = Cross Tee Lines × Ceiling Width
The actual cross-tee quantity supplied by a manufacturer can differ because of tee lengths and the exact grid module.
Hanger Calculation
Hangers are estimated along each main runner line using the entered hanger spacing.
Hangers per Main Line = Ceiling(Ceiling Length ÷ Hanger Spacing) + 1
Total Hangers = Main Runner Lines × Hangers per Main Line
The calculator then applies the selected hanger extra percentage.
Perimeter Angle Calculation
The base perimeter requirement is the complete ceiling perimeter.
Perimeter = 2 × (Ceiling Length + Ceiling Width)
The estimator adds the entered perimeter extra allowance and converts the resulting length into stock pieces.
Important Limitations
This is a preliminary ceiling grid material estimator.
It does not design the ceiling suspension system.
It does not verify hanger capacity.
It does not determine the correct grid profile or gauge.
It does not account for seismic requirements.
It does not design perimeter fixings.
It does not calculate exact manufacturer-specific tee quantities.
Lighting, HVAC diffusers, access panels and other services may require additional framing.
Ceiling openings and irregular room geometry can change material requirements.
Final quantities should follow the selected ceiling manufacturer's system and project drawings.
Use this result for preliminary material estimating only. Final grid spacing, hanger layout, suspension details and accessories must be verified against the selected ceiling system and project requirements.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does the Metal Ceiling Grid Estimator calculate?
It estimates main runners, cross tees, perimeter angle, hangers and common suspension accessories from ceiling dimensions and spacing.
Can I estimate a 600 × 600 mm ceiling grid?
Yes. Use 600 mm cross tee spacing and the appropriate main runner spacing for the selected system.
Does the calculator include perimeter angle?
Yes. It calculates the complete ceiling perimeter and converts the requirement into stock lengths.
Does it include hanger wires?
Yes. Hanger points are estimated from main runner lines and the selected hanger spacing.
Can I add waste?
Yes. The estimator has configurable waste and extra allowances for grid materials and suspension components.
Is the result a final bill of materials?
No. It is a preliminary estimate. Actual quantities depend on the ceiling manufacturer's system, room geometry, openings and project details.
