Gold Tube Weight Formula

The tube is treated as an outer cylinder minus an inner cylinder. Dimensions are converted from millimetres to centimetres before the volume calculation.

Metal Volume = π × Length × (Outer Radius² − Inner Radius²)

Weight = Metal Volume × Density

Fine Gold = Total Weight × Purity ÷ 100

Why Inner Diameter Matters

Using only the outside diameter would treat the tube as solid and overestimate its mass. The inner diameter removes the hollow core from the calculated metal volume.

Density for Gold Tubing

The default 19.32 g/cm³ is the density used for elemental gold. Actual jewellery alloys should use an appropriate alloy density for higher accuracy. 3

Check that outer diameter is greater than inner diameter before using a production result.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can the inner diameter equal the outer diameter?

No. That would represent zero material thickness and therefore zero metal volume.

Can this calculate gold alloy tubing?

Yes. Enter the relevant density and purity.

Does this account for taper?

No. It assumes constant circular dimensions along the entered length.
