Estimate what your gold holding could be worth at a chosen target gold
price. Enter the quantity, purity and current or target market price to
calculate target value, value change and percentage change.
What Is Gold Target Value?
Gold target value is the estimated monetary value of a gold holding if the
gold price reaches a selected target price. It is different from a gold
price target because the price target describes the market price, while
target value describes what a specified quantity of gold would be worth at
that price.
The calculator combines three main inputs: the amount of gold, its purity
and the target price. An optional current price can also be entered to
compare today's modeled value with the target value.
How the Gold Target Value Calculation Works
The calculator first converts your selected quantity into grams. It then
applies the selected purity to determine the amount of fine gold.
Fine Gold Weight = Total Gold Weight × Purity
When the entered gold price represents fine gold, the target value is
calculated from the fine-gold quantity and the corresponding target price
per unit.
Target Value =
Fine Gold Quantity × Target Fine-Gold Price
For example, 10 grams of 22K gold contains approximately 9.1667 grams of
fine gold.
10 g × 91.67% ≈ 9.167 g fine gold
The target value can then be estimated using the selected fine-gold price.
Gold Target Value Example
Suppose you hold 10 grams of 24K gold and the target gold price is 2,500
per gram.
10 × 2,500 = 25,000
The estimated target value is therefore 25,000 in the selected currency.
If the current price is 2,000 per gram, the current modeled value is:
10 × 2,000 = 20,000
The difference between the current and target values is 5,000, representing
a 25% increase from the current modeled value.
Target Value for Different Gold Purities
Gold purity matters because a piece of lower-karat gold contains less fine
gold by weight than 24K gold.
| Purity |
Approximate Fine-Gold Content |
Fine Gold in 10 g |
| 24K |
99.9%+ |
≈ 9.99 g |
| 22K |
91.67% |
≈ 9.167 g |
| 21K |
87.50% |
8.75 g |
| 18K |
75.00% |
7.50 g |
| 14K |
58.33% |
≈ 5.833 g |
| 10K |
41.67% |
≈ 4.167 g |
The calculator uses the selected purity factor to estimate the fine-gold
component. Actual hallmarking, assay results and alloy composition can
determine the exact fineness of a particular item.
Gold Target Value by Weight Unit
Gold is quoted using several weight systems. The calculator supports common
units used for precious metals.

Target Value vs Target Price
These two concepts are closely related but answer different questions.
Gold target price
The selected market price you want to evaluate, such as a target price
per gram or troy ounce.
Gold target value
The estimated monetary value of your particular gold quantity if that
target price is reached.
A target price therefore cannot be interpreted without considering how much
gold you own and its purity.
Comparing Current Value With Target Value
Entering a current price allows the calculator to compare the current
modeled value with the target value.
Value Change = Target Value − Current Value
The percentage change is calculated from the current value:
Value Change % =
((Target Value − Current Value) ÷ Current Value) × 100
A positive result means the target value is above the current modeled
value. A negative result means the target is below it.
Gold Target Value and Physical Gold
The theoretical metal value of physical gold does not always equal the
amount you can receive when selling it.
Coins and bars may trade at premiums or discounts. Jewellery can contain
workmanship charges, gemstones and other costs that may not be recovered at
resale.
Use the target value as a metal-value estimate. For an actual sale,
compare it with the current buyback or dealer quotation applicable to the
specific gold item.
Gold Target Value and Investment Planning
A target-value calculation can help translate a chosen gold-price scenario
into an estimated value for a particular holding.
For example, an investor can test several possible gold-price targets and
see how each one would affect the modeled value of the same quantity.
This does not mean that any particular target price will be reached. The
calculator performs a scenario calculation rather than a market forecast.
Important Limitations
This calculator does not provide a live gold price or forecast future gold
prices.
It assumes that the entered target price is applicable to the selected
purity basis. If your quoted market price already represents the value of
the specific alloy rather than fine gold, the purity should not be applied
again.
Actual resale proceeds can differ because of dealer spreads, bid-ask
differences, premiums, discounts, taxes, commissions, refining costs and
other transaction expenses.
For jewellery, the calculated metal value should not automatically be
treated as the expected retail or resale price.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a gold target value?
It is the estimated value of a specified gold quantity if the selected target
gold price is reached.
How is target gold value calculated?
The quantity is converted into the selected price unit, the selected purity is
applied to determine fine-gold content, and the result is multiplied by the
target price.
Can I calculate the target value of 22K gold?
Yes. Select 22K and enter the quantity and applicable gold price.
Can I calculate target value per gram?
Yes. Select Per Gram as the gold price unit.
Can I compare current value with target value?
Yes. Enter both the current gold price and target gold price.
Does target value mean the price I will definitely receive?
No. It is a mathematical estimate. Actual sale proceeds can differ because of
market spreads, premiums, fees and buyer-specific pricing.
Does this calculator predict future gold prices?
No. It calculates the value if the target price occurs; it does not forecast
whether that price will occur.
Does the calculator use live gold prices?
No. Gold prices are entered manually.
