How Gold Percentage Is Calculated
The traditional karat system divides gold purity into 24 parts. The karat number tells you how many of those 24 parts are gold.
For example, 18K gold:
Fineness uses a 1,000-point scale. To convert fineness to percentage, divide the fineness value by 10.

Gold Percentage vs Fineness
Both describe the same underlying gold proportion, but they use different scales. Percentage uses parts per 100, while fineness uses parts per 1,000.
Fineness = Percentage × 10
Thus 999 fineness is 99.9% gold, while 750 fineness is 75% gold.
Gold Percentage Does Not Equal Jewellery Value
