Choose a Karat and Calculate
Common-karat alloy content in grams and percentages.
24K, 22K, 18K and 14K Gold Explained
| Karat | Fine Gold % | Non-Gold Alloy % |
|---|---|---|
| 24K | 100% | 0% |
| 22K | 91.6667% | 8.3333% |
| 18K | 75% | 25% |
| 14K | 58.3333% | 41.6667% |
These percentages come directly from the standard karat relationship: karat divided by 24.
Formula
Non-Gold Alloy = Total Weight − Fine Gold
Example: 100 g of 14K Gold
Non-Gold Alloy = 100 − 58.333333 = 41.666667 g
The calculator keeps additional decimal precision internally and rounds only the displayed result.
What the Calculator Does Not Tell You
Karat determines total gold content. It does not specify whether the remaining alloy is primarily silver, copper, zinc, palladium or another metal. Actual alloy chemistry depends on the intended color and physical properties.
