How Remelting Purity Is Calculated

The remelting model tracks fine gold separately from total material. The added material can be pure gold or another alloy, and a process loss percentage is then applied to the combined fine-gold amount.

Initial Fine Gold = Old Weight × Old Purity ÷ 100

Added Fine Gold = Added Weight × Added Purity ÷ 100

Fine Gold After Loss = (Initial + Added) × (1 − Loss %)

Final Purity = Fine Gold After Loss ÷ Final Batch Weight × 100

Why Remelting Does Not Automatically Increase Purity

Adding high-purity material can raise overall purity, while adding lower-purity alloy can reduce it. Process loss affects the fine-gold balance according to the assumption used in the model.

Use the Calculator for Batch Planning

Run different added-material scenarios before a production batch is prepared. That lets you see whether the resulting purity moves toward the intended alloy specification.

For production work, account for the actual composition of every input and confirm the finished alloy with appropriate testing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I add pure gold?

Yes. Enter 100% as the added material purity.

Can I add an alloy?

Yes. Enter its estimated gold purity.

Does the tool determine a metallurgical process?

No. It models the mass and fine-gold balance from your assumptions.
