How the Gold Bar Portfolio Calculation Works

Each bar is calculated independently before the portfolio totals are combined. Fine-gold content is based on gross weight multiplied by purity, while the metal benchmark uses the entered gold spot price.

Fine Gold = Quantity × Bar Weight × Purity ÷ 100

Bar Metal Value = Fine Gold × Spot Price ÷ 31.1034768

Portfolio Value = Sum of All Bar Metal Values

Why Weighted Purity Matters

A portfolio containing several bar sizes may not have the same purity in every item. A simple average of the purity percentages can therefore be misleading. This calculator weights purity by the actual gross metal weight of each holding.

Portfolio Interpretation

The calculated metal value is a benchmark based on your entered spot price. Actual resale proceeds can differ because of dealer spreads, product recognition, market conditions and transaction costs.

Use current product-specific buying or selling prices when making a real transaction decision.
