Generator Load-Bank Test Energy Calculator — Estimate Test Energy and Fuel Cost
Estimate how much electrical energy a generator load-bank test delivers and the fuel cost associated with the test duration.
Load-bank test assumptions
What a load-bank test costs energetically
A load-bank test converts generator fuel into electrical output that is dissipated by the test equipment rather than used by the facility's normal loads. The test can therefore be evaluated as both energy and fuel expenditure.
Test energy
Test energy equals generator output multiplied by test duration. At 500 kW and 75% load for two hours, the modeled electrical energy is 750 kWh.
Fuel estimate
The fuel curve determines litres consumed during the test. Because the generator may consume fuel even while producing relatively little output, test fuel cost can be significant.
Annual testing
Tests per year convert one test into an annual planning cost without assuming a particular testing schedule.
Limitations
This calculator does not determine whether a load-bank test is required or whether a particular test procedure satisfies any standard or maintenance program.
Frequently asked questions
Does the result represent useful site energy?
No. It represents electrical energy delivered to the load bank.
Can the load bank be less than 100%?
Yes. Enter the intended test level.
Can test duration be zero?
Yes, although the resulting energy and fuel use are zero.
