Drywall finishing quantity
Drywall Seam Length Calculator | Board Joint Quantity
Estimate the total field seam length produced by a rectangular drywall layout. Compare vertical and horizontal layouts and see the joint-length difference before ordering tape or planning finishing labor.
Wall and board dimensions
The result represents rectangular field seams. Add corners, openings and system-specific joint details separately when preparing a complete finishing takeoff.

Seam-length methodology
A board layout creates internal boundaries where adjacent boards meet. The calculator counts these boundaries based on the number of sheets required in each direction.
Vertical-board layout: horizontal course seams + vertical joints between boards
Horizontal-board layout: horizontal joints between courses + vertical joints between columns
Horizontal-board layout: horizontal joints between courses + vertical joints between columns
Why seam length matters
Seam length can influence joint-finishing material and labor exposure. Comparing layouts is therefore useful even when total board area is unchanged.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does seam length equal tape quantity?
It is a useful starting quantity, not a complete tape takeoff.
Does the calculator include corners?
No.
Can it compare board directions?
Yes.
Can openings be included?
Not in the base rectangular model.
