Door trim quantity planning

Door Stop Length Calculator | Total Trim Material

Estimate door-stop molding for multiple openings by calculating two vertical jamb runs plus a head run for each door. Add an explicit cutting allowance and convert the result into stock lengths.

Door stop inputs

The calculator assumes the entered stop runs correspond directly to opening dimensions. Actual frame details can include different jamb, head and sill arrangements.
Enter door count and opening dimensions.

Door stop length formula

3-side stop = 2 × opening height + opening width
4-side stop = 2 × opening height + 2 × opening width
Planning quantity = net length × (1 + allowance ÷ 100)
Stock pieces = ceiling(planning quantity ÷ stock length)

Why door stop is a separate takeoff

Door casing sits outside the opening as finish trim, while a door stop forms the stopping surface for the door leaf. Their lengths can look similar, but they are different components and should be estimated separately.

Stock length matters

A linear total does not guarantee efficient cutting. Real procurement can require additional lengths when individual jamb and head pieces do not nest efficiently.

Worked example

For ten 900 mm × 2,100 mm openings using a three-sided stop:

Per door = 2 × 2.1 + 0.9 = 5.1 m
Net = 10 × 5.1 = 51 m
With 8% allowance = 55.08 m

Frequently Asked Questions

Does door stop usually use three pieces?

A three-sided arrangement is common, but the actual frame construction controls.

Can I model a four-sided stop?

Yes.

Does the allowance include all cutting losses?

It is a planning allowance, not a guaranteed cutting yield.

Does this calculate casing?

No. Casing is a separate trim quantity.
