How supplier quote normalization works

Each supplier quote is reduced to a common economic basis before the options are compared. The method keeps the original quoted quantity visible instead of pretending every quote was originally made on the same basis.

Discounted quote = quoted price × (1 − discount)
Effective quote = discounted quote + directly comparable charges
Normalized unit cost = effective quote ÷ quoted quantity

Worked example

If Supplier A quotes $4,200 for 100 units with a 3% discount and $250 delivery, the adjusted total is $4,324. The normalized cost is $43.24 per unit.

Why commercial terms matter

A supplier with a lower headline price can become more expensive after freight or other directly comparable charges. The calculator makes those additions explicit.

What still needs human review

Material grade, technical compliance, lead time, payment terms, minimum order quantities, delivery reliability and quality documentation can change the purchasing decision even when one supplier has the lowest normalized arithmetic cost.
