Inventory control

Construction Material Inventory Runout Calculator

Estimate how long current material stock will last, then check whether a scheduled receipt arrives before the projected runout point.

Inventory inputs

The calculation assumes steady average consumption. For active projects, compare this with the actual construction schedule and planned material receipts.
Enter current stock and daily consumption.

How inventory runout is calculated

Safety stock can be treated as protected inventory rather than ordinary operational stock. That leaves a smaller quantity available before a replenishment risk is triggered.

Operational stock = current stock − safety stock
Days of cover = operational stock ÷ daily consumption
Stock at receipt = current stock − consumption until receipt
Stock after receipt = stock at receipt + receipt quantity

Worked example

85 units of current stock less 15 units safety stock leaves 70 operational units. At 12 units per day, the usable inventory covers about 5.83 days.

Why the scheduled receipt matters

If a 60-unit delivery arrives in four days, approximately 37 units are consumed before the receipt under a steady-use assumption. The calculator then adds the received material back into the stock position.

What runout means here

This is a planning runout rather than a guarantee of an exact site date. Consumption may accelerate or stop, and deliveries can be delayed.
